Driving for Uber or Lyft is a great side hustle you can do for extra money.

145. Deliver Food for DoorDash

DoorDash is a takeout food delivery service. People order food from local restaurants, and the Dasher picks it up and brings it to your door. All payments and tips are handled through the app, making for a smooth experience.

You can be a DoorDash driver, called a Dasher, by applying on DoorDash’s website. Dashers keep 100% of all tips and set their own schedules. DoorDash advertises that you can make between $15 to $25 an hour.

DoorDash is a good side hustle if you live in an area with many restaurants with nearby residential streets. This way, you can spend the least amount of gas and time delivering food, allowing you to make more deliveries per hour which means more money earned per day.

146. Rent Your Car on Getaround

If you’re not using your car all the time, you could sign up on Getaround and rent your car to people in the area who need it for a short period. You can rent cars, trucks, convertibles, and vans by the hour or by the day. This unconventional side hustle can be a great way to earn money when you have a car that you aren’t driving much.

Getaround guarantees a minimum of $1,000 in three months, but you can earn a lot more oftentimes.

149. Be a Valet Parker

As a valet parker, you’ll be responsible for greeting guests at events or locations such as hotels, and then safely parking their car for them. Once the guests return, you’ll deliver their car back to them.

To get a job as a Valet Parker, look for events in your area. Additionally, some hotels offer valet parking, and you can look at their job listings to see if they have an opening.

Side Hustles Using Money to Make Money

151. Invest with Round-up Apps

One way to earn extra money passively is to open an account with a round-up app like Acorns. With Acorns, every time you swipe a credit card attached to your Acorns account, Acorns will round up to the nearest dollar and invest the difference. This can be a great way to invest money automatically and let an app manage how the money is invested, based on your preferences.

Note that round-up apps generally come with monthly fees – Acorns is $3/mo as of this writing – and because of that, you’ll want to make sure you have enough money invested such that the fees don’t eat up too much of your returns.

152. Use Trim to Save Money

Perhaps one way to earn extra money in 2022 is not to spend it in the first place. When you sign up for the app Trim, you’ll be partnered with someone who will negotiate your cable, internet, and phone bills, as well as attempt to lower your credit card APR and reverse any bank fees you’ve incurred.

Trim also helps identify and cancel unused subscriptions that you may have. This app is “mostly free” in that you pay a small portion of how much money that Trim saves you.

Check out Trim here.

153. Get Cashback on Your Credit Card

There are several ways to earn cashback on your credit card. The most common one is through a card-specific reward program. These programs generally give you a certain amount of cashback for every dollar you spend on your credit card. In addition to cashback, many cards also give you points to use toward travel or other purchases, which can be worth a lot more than the cashback itself.

154. Earn Cashback Shopping with Ibotta

Ibotta is an app for your phone that provides cashback when you use it to shop at grocery stores and retail stores all over the country. It’s free to sign up. You may need to upload a picture of your receipts to earn money, so be sure to keep them.

155. Open a Bank Account and Get a Bonus

You can earn a few hundred dollars just by opening and funding a bank account at specific banks. This isn’t truly a side hustle, however, it is a way to earn some extra cash if you’re already looking to open a bank account.

156. Earn Interest in Your Bank Account

This way to earn extra money is quite simple. All you need is a bank account that pays a competitive interest rate, and you’ll earn money each month that you have money in your account.

CIT Bank offers a high-yield online savings account where you can earn a competitive interest rate. You’ll also be rewarded with a higher rate for every month that you transfer $100 or more to your account or if you maintain a balance of $25,000 or greater.

157. Invest in Stocks that Pay Dividends

Investing in stocks that pay dividends is a somewhat hands-off way to make extra money. You can do this by picking out individual stocks or buying into ETFs that focus on stocks that pay dividends.

Two great places to get started with investing in stocks are Charles Schwab Bank or M1 Finance. Schwab has an excellent research platform if you want to do things yourself, and M1 Finance will allow you to use Robo advisors to allocate your money for you.

158. Invest in Peer-to-Peer Lending

Peer-to-Peer (P2P) lending is when you use an online platform to lend money to others directly. Borrowers use P2P lending platforms generally when they don’t qualify for a bank loan. You’ll get passive income each month in the form of interest whenever someone makes a payment towards a loan in which you invested.

Websites like Prosper allow you to invest money in loans, called notes, with as little as $25 per note. This allows you to diversify your money across many notes while risking relatively little money per note.

Check out this guide if you’re wondering if you should invest in P2P lending.

159. Trade Cryptocurrency

This side hustle is not for the faint of heart, as cryptocurrency is volatile at times. You’ll attempt to buy a coin such as Bitcoin, Ethereum, or an altcoin when it’s priced low and sell it when it’s priced high. Alternatively, you can use a buy-and-hold strategy and hope that your coin will continue to rise over time, selling it when it makes sense in the future.

Cryptocurrency is still a relatively new type of investing, and make sure only to invest what you’re willing to lose.

160. Buy and Rent Real Estate

Buying and renting real estate can be both a side hustle and a full-time arrangement where you’ll earn extra money through collecting rent each month. Real estate generally takes quite a bit of money to get started with, however, there are avenues you can take to buy property with less money upfront.

One idea is to buy a multifamily home, live in one of the units, and rent out the others. By doing this, your tenants will cover most of or all of your mortgage. This is a great way to build wealth with your home.

161. Invest in Crowdfunded Real Estate

If you don’t have the funds to buy a rental property or the desire to be a landlord, another way to make money with real estate is to invest in crowdfunded real estate through Fundrise. You can open an account with as little as $10 and start earning appreciation and rent every quarter in the form of dividends.

Fundrise reports that the average annual return is around 8.1%. Use our link to sign up with Fundrise and get your first 90 days of management fees waived.

162. Find Unclaimed Money

It’s possible that money is owed to you, and you can figure this out by going to your state’s website. For the exact website, try going to Google and typing “find out if money is owed to you,” followed by what state you’re in. Then, look for the search result with your state’s website, which may lead to your state’s treasury.

While this is not a traditional side hustle, you can use this method once every few years to see if you’re owed money, which can add some cash to your wallet.

163. Improve Your Credit Score

Improving your credit score saves you money by making you eligible to pay lower interest rates on credit cards, mortgages, auto loans, and other loans. You may also save money on insurance by having a higher credit score. So, while you might not make extra money by improving your credit score, you’ll save money in several ways.

Use this guide to improve your credit score starting today.

164. Budget to Save Money

While budgeting isn’t exactly a side hustle, it can be a great way to identify where your money is coming from and where it’s going. When you determine your expenses, you’ll find ways to have more money at the end of each month, whether by spending less money on certain things or using a side hustle to make more money.

Everyday things that people cut costs on once identifying them in a budget include money spent on:

  • Meals out
  • Subscription boxes
  • Cable TV
  • Online and mobile games
  • Newspapers
  • Unnecessary bank fees

165. Build a CD or Bond Ladder

This investment technique helps you build passive income in regular intervals. Using a CD ladder as an example, what you might do is invest in a 3-month, 6-month, 9-month, and 12-month CD and then when the 3-month CD matures, use that money to buy another 12-month CD. Then, three months later, when the 6-month CD matures, buy another 12-month CD.

By doing this, you’ll receive passive income every three months while continuing the ladder indefinitely. CD ladders often pay a very low interest rate compared to other investment avenues, however, they are FDIC-insured up to $250,000, making this a safe investment for the typical investor.

166. Invest in Fine Art

This type of investing is relatively new to everyday investors, however, many billionaires invest in fine art as this type of investment often appreciates faster than other traditional methods. Of course, with an investment method like this comes its own risk.

The website Masterworks.io allows you to invest in shares of art and earn money as pieces gain value. However, it’s important to note that some pieces won’t gain value or may lose value, so do your research before making this type of investment.

167. Get Your 401(k) Match

This straightforward way of making more money simply means increasing your 401(k) contributions to the maximum your employer will match.

For example, if your employer will match up to 4%, you’ll want to invest a minimum of 4% of your salary into your 401(k) so that you get an additional 4% for free, as it will be matched by your employer.

168. Playing Online Poker

Playing online poker is a form of gambling that can earn you extra money, however, we don’t recommend gambling as you’ll more than likely lose money long term. That said, if you enjoy playing poker, this can be a fun way to spend your time and you may make some money if you’re a skilled player.
